Budgerigar

Geographical area
The Budgerigar is native to Australia, specifically the island continent’s open woodlands, grasslands, and scrublands.

Since its discovery in the middle of the 19th century, this bird has been imported worldwide, especially in Europe, where it has had to adapt to the climate.

Breed History
The first description of the Budgerigar was made by British ornithologist and naturalist George Kearsley Shaw in 1840.

The Budgerigar is the only species of the genus Melopsittacus and the tribe Melopsittacini.

This species of bird has been bred in captivity since around 1850.
